Winter has been so long – I too have burnt logs reserved for charcoal. Maybe 2013′ll be a barbecue Summer and the logs will dry for charring and for next Winter too (which I believe will be the mildest on record – we are in a regime of extreems you know!)

Have you tried freezing the water out? It might be thermally more efficient, like freeze-drying. Sorry, sunny and warm here.

I’ve spent many the day tending to heat. Getting the wood from the forest, splitting,stacking, loading the woodbox, keeping the fire and cleaning the ash. You just don’t hit a button on the wall with wood. Hope the weather clears so you can get busy for next winter. It’s all good.

I walk through the wood next to our house most days even though the owner does not approve. I cause no damage and will continue to walk there despite the unfriendly “keep out” notices.

My brother lives in Finland. Apparently the weather over there is warmer than it is here. To add insult to injury I have just had to order a load of seasoned logs as I’m running very low. I don’t actually remember the last time I BOUGHT firewood

It’s the toes that finally get me, I can warm me fingers up, everything else is well clothed, but when I feel the cold getting to my toeses I know I’m done for. This despite lined socks, an extra pair, boots and underfloor heating from the rotting shavings.

You poor Brits in your unheated houses. Sorry to say that I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon out in the back yard in the sunshine. Then back to the workshop, and now made a 0.05 mm mallet, that’s 2 thousands of an inch diameter, 3 billion time lighter than a one-pound mallet.
