Gallery of photos taken during the Eastern Counties Scything championships at Wimpole Hall in June 2011 – I will be adding more photos as I get them processed so come back and look again in a few days, or if there is something you want to see here send me an email and I’ll put it up if I have it.
Sequence from the Scythe Versus Strimmer race (pt1) featuring Andy Coleman scything and Ded on the Strimmer.
As you can see from the last photo Andy Coleman beat the Ded’s Strimmer quite handsomely. Though the dispute over the relative quality of the cutting will continue for a while yet I should think.

George mowing his 1/4 acre plot early on the Saturday morning. No mean feat with a scythe. An acre a day is often quoted as the standard for mowers, but it gives no indication of the state of the grass and ground beneath it, so a 1/4 acre before breakfast is indeed an achievement for us folks who don’t mow for a living.

I can just imagine the conversation – ‘Getting a bit hot today isn’t it – do you want help taking your coat off?’ and for the reply……

….well you have to see the help thats on offer!
to get a sense of the reply…..
Not today thanks Dear, I’ll keep mine on if you don’t mind!
A Sequence with Jim McVittie mowing a 5 sq metre plot
Well done Jim – Nice Mowing!
This Hay rack reminded me of some ancient effigy. Not the Wicker Man so much as the Harvest Woman.
The Scythe Versus Strimmer Race – Pt2 – with Ded scything and Andy Coleman using Ded’s Strimmer.
And last but not least a few gratuitous photos
